Better Red Than Dead

An interesting fact: In the US, the sale of red hair dye has gone up 17% since 2000.

I have had red hair for nearly a decade. It is by far my greatest indulgence.

For the last couple of years I have wanted to stop dyeing my hair with chemicals but haven't been able to find a natural colour that looks like this.

And look at this! Can you blame me??

Photo taken by PJ against the hairdresser's wall when he picked me up after my appointment.

Looks wonderful, Meg. The colour suits you so much that part of me actually believes it's natural! Are you sure it isn't? Is it really dye?

Do you think it's significant that 2000 was when, in the USA, a Republican (Bush) succeeded a Democrat (Clinton) as President? If so then in 2009 the use of red hair dye in the US should fall. No doubt you'll inform your readers in a year or so, LOM. xx

I love the way your hair is moving a little in this photo, either from the wind catching it or maybe from you jiggling? Beautiful hair!

Tried Herbatint, natural dye?
or mix standard red henna with sunset red?
but really, its worth indulging for the whole coifure experience..
Have you seen the film 'Caramel' from Lebanon?

Thanks Cassandra! And thanks Eddy, I will look into Herbatint and tracking down Caramel. Hope you are both well. xx

i use manic panic vampire red with a little divine wine and its the same colour, only problem is that its non permanent and can be a little messy, and sometimes runs. keep colour fresh by adding a little dye to your conditioner, the plus side is that its vegan!

Wow. I LOVE that colour! I wish I could have that colour.. I naturally have really blonde hair so I dont think it would suit me, If only we got to choose our hair colours at birth eh? Haha :)

You could use henna as a natural alternative, if your hair is naturally dark it will not be as red as the picture but it can make hair quite red. Check out: http://www.mehandi.com/

Hi!

I was wondering what your natural hair color was. I was thinking about dying my hair that exact color, but I don't know if it would be that shade on top of my brown hair... Thanks Lizzie :)
